A clean-up in Marburg which brought together neighbours, temple and church organisations, and political parties resulted in 75 bags of rubbish and 10 bags of alcohol bottles being collected on July 11.

It was spearheaded by Sean Pillay, who was joined by members of the Shree Raam Narayan Temple and Umbango River Conservancy (URC), ACDP and residents, which saw the area around Marburg Extension 14 being cleaned up.

URC chairperson Morgan Naidoo condemns illegal dumping. “As much as we and other organisations are eager to contribute to keeping our environment clean, this comes with deep frustration.”
He added that municipal by-laws are being violated, but the municipality tends to ignore this; and posters on illegal dumping are ineffective if the the law is not exercised.

Senior reporter Sugan Naidoo is a true son of the South Coast soil.
