New Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast president set to continue legacy of service
Over the years, the club has initiated and supported countless community projects, touching the lives of people across the region.
The Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast celebrated the start of a new Rotary year with its annual induction and awards ceremony at the Estuary Hotel, where Audrey Ryan was officially inducted as president.
The afternoon was filled with fellowship, inspiring speeches, the presentation of annual awards, delicious cuisine and live entertainment by local musician Ian King.
Members also took the opportunity to recognise the outstanding leadership of outgoing President Simoné Pillay, thanking her for a successful year of service and dedication to both the club and the wider community.
In her inaugural address, President Ryan reflected on the club’s proud history and its ongoing commitment to making a meaningful difference on the South Coast.
Rotary’s presence in the area spans more than seven decades.
The Rotary Club of Margate was chartered in 1950, followed by the chartering of the Rotary Club of Uvongo in 1981.
In 2001, the two clubs merged to form what is today known as the Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast, bringing together a rich heritage of service under one banner.
Over the years, the club has initiated and supported countless community projects, touching the lives of people across the region.
One of its best-known and longest-running initiatives is the Uvongo Flea Market, proudly operated by Rotary since 1988.
More than just a popular weekend attraction for locals and holidaymakers, the market has become an important platform for small businesses and local entrepreneurs, with proceeds helping to fund Rotary’s many community projects.
The club continues to support a wide range of initiatives, including education, early childhood development, health, environmental projects, youth development, support for vulnerable communities and humanitarian assistance wherever it is needed.
Looking ahead, President Ryan invited the community to become part of Rotary’s next milestone event, the 40th Grannies’ Walk, taking place on Monday, August 10.
“The Grannies’ Walk has become a wonderful tradition that brings our community together for a day of fun while supporting projects that make a real difference,” she said.
“Whether you’re walking in costume, bringing the family or simply coming along to enjoy the atmosphere, we’d love you to be part of this special 40th celebration.”
As the Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast embarks on another year of service under Rotary International’s theme, Create Lasting Impact, President Ryan and her team remain committed to strengthening communities and changing lives – one project at a time.
