Ronald Pillay, an entrepreneur from Umkomaas, has had his life shaped by experiences that tested his strength, faith and determination.

After being diagnosed with end-stage renal failure, he faced one of the most difficult periods of his life. His experiences have now become the foundation of his new memoir, A Life Returned.

The book traces Ronald’s journey from his childhood growing up on a farm in Umkomaas, through the hardships and experiences that shaped him, including a life-changing personal loss at the age of 19, and his later battle with kidney failure.

Despite the obstacles he faced, Ronald continued to push forward. Through hard work and perseverance, he established a transport business and built a life while navigating the difficulties that came his way.

“My life has been shaped by immense challenges, and I wrote this book to show that no matter how difficult life becomes, faith, resilience and determination can help us overcome even the darkest moments,” said Ronald.

He also mentioned that the title of his book reflects the second chance at life he believes he has been given.

“A Life Returned symbolises the gift of a second chance. It not only reflects my survival, but also the opportunity to live with renewed purpose, gratitude and the desire to inspire others.”

Through his memoir, Ronald hopes to encourage others who may be facing their own challenges to believe that their circumstances do not determine their future.

“I hope readers will realise that their circumstances does not define their future. No matter what obstacles they may face, there is always hope, and with perseverance and faith, they can rise above anything.”
