Two people died, and 14 others were injured in a fatal collision on the N2 near the Mpenjati Bridge under the Port Edward policing area yesterday (August 5), at about 17:00.

According to police, a Toyota Quantum carrying passengers and a Chery Tiggo collided.

The two people who died at the scene, aged 39 and 51, were travelling in the minibus.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Med-Evac Ambulance Service said a further 14 patients sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. Emergency personnel assessed and treated the injured before transporting them to local medical facilities for further care.

The ambulance service expressed its condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and thanked all emergency services, law enforcement officers and support agencies for their professionalism and teamwork during the response.

Med-Evac also urged motorists to remain vigilant, reduce speed when conditions require it and make road safety a priority, noting that incidents such as these are a sobering reminder of how quickly lives can change.
