Dog training session in Umtentweni lays foundation for happy pets

The workshop focused on building strong relationships between owners and their canine companions.

If you want to enjoy a happy relationship with man’s best friend, training and commitment are essential, especially when welcoming a rescue dog or puppy into your home.

Dog owners and their four-legged companions recently spent the morning learning valuable training techniques from Durban-based canine behaviourist Daniel Stewart.

The morning workshop was hosted by dog trainer Gaby Frey in Umtentweni.

The workshop focused on building strong relationships between owners and their dogs through effective handling and training.

Stewart has spent years helping owners better understand their dogs through positive, science-based training methods. He is a qualified Companion Animal Behaviour and Training practitioner and was recognised with an international Rabies Hero Award in 2020 for his work promoting responsible dog handling and rabies awareness.

Gaby said it was encouraging to see so many owners committed to understanding and helping their dogs.

“One of the biggest messages from the workshop is that prevention is always better than cure. By enrolling puppies in training classes early, owners can give them the social skills, confidence and good manners they need to thrive. A strong foundation in those first few months can make all the difference, helping families enjoy a lifetime with a happy, well-adjusted dog,” she said.
