March and March leaders in KwaNzimakwe have been instructed to apologise to Inkosi Bhekizizwe Nzimakwe.

The leaders in question, namely Nkosi Mkhize, Bheki Khusi and Philani Gumede, will have to present him with five cows.

This comes after a meeting held at the KwaNzimakwe tribal court on September 15, where izinduna and inkosi told them that they felt disrespected and insulted during the march that took place there in July.

Traditional leaders say that the trio called them ‘rotten’ and accused the chief of accepting bribes from foreigners.

Khusi, who spoke on behalf of the march leaders, said they are not apologetic about March and March, nor about chasing away foreigners in KwaNzimakwe.

He said they had no control over what people say on social media.

“However, if we said anything wrong on that day and the chief and izinduna took offence, we would like to apologise as that was never our intention,” he said.

He said they would like to make it clear that they do not want foreigners in KwaNzimakwe; they will not accept them and would like to get support for that.

When asked if the accusations they made towards the chief were false, Khusi responded by saying the allegations were unfounded and that there was no proof.

“The foreigners told us that they were paying and that they wanted their money back because they were not getting the help they had paid for.”

Chairperson of the Traditional Court, Thulebona Khowa, said the court and traditional leaders had accepted the apology.

“We are looking at a way forward in figuring out how we can work together. The chief has also accepted their apology but it is a custom that when you apologise you have to apologise with something. They can have a private conversation with the chief if they cannot afford the five cows and see from there what they can afford.”

Khowa insisted that there should be something that they give the inkosi and that it should not be money.
