Learners observe global peace day

Hlanganani Preparatory School in partnership with Roots and Shoots Kwazulu-Natal also encouraged other schools to observe World Peace Day.

Every year the United Nations celebrates International Day of Peace on September 21.

On this day, all nations and people around the world are asked to abandon hostility and to commit to living together peacefully.

The UN Messenger of Peace, Jane Goodall invited children of all ages and from all different countries to tinker ‘peace doves’ made of paper and to fly them as symbols of longing for global peace.

With their World Peace Day poster and doves are (back) Bayanda Mbili and Marvin Bradfield, with Hlonipha Shude and Zamokuhle Gcaba in front.

In collaboration with the Jane Goodall Institute, Roots and Shoots South Africa, Hlanganani Preparatory School joined hundreds of children around the world to draw attention to the important of peace.

Under the direction of Celine Jumna, educator and volunteer, and Anna Sabbatini, volunteer co-ordinator for Roots and Shoots KwaZulu-Natal, the learners enthusiastically participated in the activities by making decorated paper doves and a poster to show their desire for peace in South Africa and the world.
