St Martin’s promotes deaf awareness

It aims to increase public awareness of deaf issues.

As September is Deaf Awareness Month, bringing visibility to the communication needs and unique identity of deaf and hard of hearing people is important.

Educators from St Martin de Porres School promoted deaf awareness at the Southcoast Mall last Saturday.
Deaf Awareness Month aims to increase public awareness of deaf issues, people and culture, emphasising the positive aspects of deafness, encouraging social inclusion and raising awareness of the organisations locally, nationally and globally that support those who are deaf.

Information booklets on deaf awareness and South African Sign Language (SASL) alphabets were distributed along with delicious cupcakes for those with a sweet tooth.
