Safeguarding learners with new Shesha Lane
The school thanks everyone involved in this project.
In an effort to minimise traffic congestion and safeguard learners as they arrive and depart from school on a daily basis, Scottburgh High officially opened its Shesha Lane last week.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, principal Simon Pillay stated that in early 2022, there were discussions about how to manage the traffic congestion on Allen Street outside the school’s main gate.
“As staff and the SGB, we were gravely concerned that the safety of our learners and the learners from Scottburgh Primary were at risk. It was after much persistence and motivation and also with the support of our ward councillor, Shara Singh, that approval was granted by the Umdoni Municipality,” he added.

R&M Construction constructed the new lane and additional parking bays, as well as changed the angle of some of the existing parking bays.
The project was extended to inside the school, where new paved pathways were constructed by Pro Ex Paving, and additional paving installed between the school road and the learner shelter.
The school thanks everyone involved in this project, especially the guest of honour on the day, James Tucker.
He was described as a steadfast pillar of support for the school community and has served as a parent member on the governing body with much dedication and commitment for the welfare of learners and staff.
“One of the most notable contributions from our guest of honour was his instrumental role in advocating for the implementation of the borehole water system and the Shesha Lane,” added acting deputy principal Strini Pillay.
The staff and guests were entertained by the school choir at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and thereafter, while refreshments were served, guests and staff viewed a video presentation of the construction process put together by the school’s TikTok Club.
