DEAR Editor:-
I am a retired medical doctor who was a previous employee of Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.
A week ago I accompanied a relative of mine, who had collapsed at home, to the hospital for admission.
First of all, I must thank the provincial ambulance service, which promptly responded to my call. I was most impressed by the professionalism and kindness of the paramedics who immediately took charge and accompanied us to Southport clinic for a referral letter of admission. There too, we also experienced nothing but civility and kindness from the nursing staff.
Having last visited the hospital a year ago and arriving incognito to the new staff I was truly stunned at the remarkable transformation. We were met with nothing but care and no effort was spared in helping us in all ways.
The admitting medical officer took a detailed history and did a thorough examination of the patient and ordered all the preliminary blood tests etc. On admission to J ward again no effort was spared in attending to the patient by the staff.
The interns, medical officers and consultants were all remarkable for their courteous manner and detailed note taking, not only to us but to all the patients in their care, despite the heavy pressure of work placed on their shoulders.
I can proudly say that Port Shepstone Regional Hospital is truly a five-star rainbow medical facility comparing favourably with any private hospital and has set an example for all provincial hospitals to follow. The spirit of our world renowned and much loved icon Madiba pervades the entire hospital.
May God bless each and every one from the security guards at the gates to top management. A truly heartfelt thank you to all. Keep up the good work.
