Make our roads safer for all

If this proposal was taken seriously, Burry Stander, along with many others, would still be alive.

DEAR Editor,-

Cyclists are legally allowed on our South Coast roads. No law enforcement officer can prohibit cyclists using our South Coast roads. If this is true, then why not invest in making our roads safer for all?

Long before Burry Standers’ death, ‘Cycle Paradise’ submitted a proposal (with discussion, recommendations and motivation) for the inclusion of pedestrian and cycle facilities on our South Coast Roads, to important delegates within the Hibiscus Coast Municipality. Since Burry’s death, this particular proposal was considered by the KZN South Coast Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association and unanimously recommended for inclusion in the IDP (Integrated Development Planning).

Guess what? This project has been excluded from the IDP for 2014!

In my opinion, had someone in position taken this proposal seriously, Burry Stander, along with many others, would still be alive and the man accused of causing Burry’s death would not have to face standing before a judge.

The revised proposal is open for public viewing at: https://www.slideshare.net/chantelledonald9/cycle-paths-1?from_search=1
