‘Supply us with clean water’

Services will not be achieved by strikes and burning government property.

DEAR Editor,-

As South Africans living at eNkoneni (kwaNzimakwe), we deserve to enjoy the fruits of uhuru achieved in 1994. This may be in the form of schools, roads, housing and water, to mention a few. We have no clean water in the ward 8 area. It is the only area with no water at kwaNzimakwe and surrounds. Like all taxpayers, we are supposed to receive equal services from the government.

Therefore, I appeal to Ugu to supply us with clean water. In July last year, a letter was submitted to the deputy mayor’s office, where the issue was about the lack or shortage of water in this area.

Election campaigns have started and political parties will be sharing their promises. As eNkoneni residents, we want to drink clean

water and practise our agricultural activities, responding to the minister of agriculture’s call, as we were promised years ago.

I would also request that the municipality provide us with street lights. Other areas in kwaNzimakwe have street lights, except eNkoneni.

If Ugu cannot afford it, for any reason(s) unknown to us, the matter must be referred to provincial government. By supplying us with water, the government would be sending a message to all South Africans that services will not be achieved by strikes and burning government properties. This would help a population of about 2 000 people living in this area.
