Fingerprints serve no purpose

My fingerprints were rejected three times and finally my licence was issued without fingerprints.

DEAR Editor,-

Would the Licensing Department come to their senses and abolish fingerprints on driving licence cards? What purpose does it serve?

How does a policeman on the street identify a driver using indiscernible prints on a plastic card? Even the driver’s photo only slightly resembles the person. The machine producing these plastic driving licences is not of the highest quality, so we pay the price of somebody’s incompetence.

Last year in November, I applied for a driver’s licence renewal. My fingerprints were rejected three times and finally after three months, my licence was issued without fingerprints.

I had to travel 92km three times from Port Edward to Port Shepstone and back, and each time my fingerprints were taken I had to supply a new set of photographs.

I am a pensioner and can hardly afford to spend money on somebody else’s blunders. I am curious as to how many other people were subjected to the same bad experience.
