‘Walk the walk before criticising’

As an experienced, highly qualified person, I could find no employment.

DEAR Editor,-

Much criticism has been levelled against prostitutes in Margate. It is evident that these young girls have no home and no job. If one is unemployed, then there is no food. Blame can be attributed to the ANC government, which has failed to provide education and employment for its citizens. It is obvious that families cannot cope with so many members, so why has the government not instituted a policy to limit the number of children per family, so as to afford a better life?

When I relocated to the South Coast, despite the highest qualifications in my field, I was unable to secure employment. I had applied for more than 100 jobs. In desperation, at the ripe age of 60, I discarded my prude upbringing and modelled nude.

My message of disillusionment is that education yields no jobs. I even applied to Margate Middle School for a maths position, which was offered by the principal. He explained that the Education Department would have to give him permission – I am white. I was not given the position.

I would like to reiterate that, as an experienced, highly qualified person, I could find no employment, so how could a young, unqualified, inexperienced person be given the job?

This appalling situation is as a result of our ANC government failing to provide protection and jobs to its people. Remember, ‘walk the walk’ before you criticise.
