My Take…Share a shower!

It’s bad... really bad, says Bevis Fairbrother.

The strangest thing happened this week…a neighbour knocked at my door and asked if she could borrow a cup of water.

OK, it’s not that bad yet, but the situation certainly seems to be headed that way.

While Scottburgh wallows in water, the taps of the town’s immediate neighbours – Park Rynie, Umzinto and Pennington areas – have just about run dry.

“Restrictors” have already been installed and the water flow in affected areas has been reduced to a trickle.

There isn’t enough pressure to use a washing machine or even run a decent shower.

It’s bad… really bad, says Ugu District Municipality, with the EJ Smith Dam a record breaking one percent full.

Ugu is trying its best to make contingency plans, even to link some areas to Scottburgh’s plentiful supply as soon as possible. But the real solution is in the hands of the gods.

We need rain!

Weather boffins predict that there is a slight chance of rain for this weekend. Pray, hold thumbs, throw salt over your shoulder… do whatever you think it takes, but focus the power of positive thought at the heavens.

Meanwhile, Scottburgh people should open their homes to their less fortunate friends and invite them around for a braai and a bath.

It could be fun. READ MORE ‘MY TAKE’ HERE
