‘Dangerous intersection is being monitored’

A decision will be made early in 2015 as to how the congestion at this intersection is to be relieved.

DEAR Editor,-

Regarding the Marine Drive and Knox Gore traffic intersection, your ‘Talk Back’ correspondent has requested the installation of traffic lights and asks the question, ‘Is anyone listening?’

For the record, after receiving a formal request from the management of St. Michael’s Manor, the Ward 19 ward committee, with the assistance of the Herald, conducted an investigation and received numerous replies from residents supporting the installation of traffic lights at this dangerous intersection.

An eighteen page memorandum was submitted to the HOD of Human Settlements and Infrastructure of the Hibiscus Coast Municipality requesting a comprehensive study by a traffic engineer as to the suitability of traffic lights or any other traffic calming device. This request was also incorporated into the Ward 19 Integrated Development Plan.

I’m pleased to report that a mini-tender was advertised for the appointment of a traffic engineer to undertake a traffic count to determine ‘the traffic aspects of possible signalisation of this intersection’. The tender closed on September 5 and I believe a decision will be made early in the new year as to how the congestion at this intersection is to be relieved.
