Food fair was a failure

The top restaurants and their much-vaunted delicacies were nowhere to be found.

DEAR Editor,-

What a disappointment the recent Food Fair at Margate beachfront turned out to be!

Having read the tantalising write-ups in the South Coast Herald advertising the event, we set off in anticipation to sample the ‘signature dishes prepared by the South Coast’s top restaurants’.

Forgoing breakfast in order to arrive good and hungry proved to be a mistake. We arrived at noon on the Saturday, thinking we would be just in time for lunch.

Well, lunch there was if we were interested in the usual holiday beach fare such as pancakes, chips, hot dogs and takeaway chicken.

The top restaurants and their much-vaunted delicacies were nowhere to be found and despite us whiling away an hour or so, none put in an appearance.

Not only is this a very poor reflection on the organisers (and the restaurateurs who failed to pitch) it was embarrassing as a proud South Coaster to see visitors milling about in the vain hope of finding even one of the restaurants mentioned serving a meal.

No wonder we have the reputation of being the ‘Slower’ South Coast – if this fair is anything to go by, the title is well deserved.
