OPINION: ‘Shona went beyond the call of duty’

In spite of being on leave, she arrived with camera, pen and notebook in hand.

DEAR Editor,-

The Golden Singers express their sincere appreciation for the article entitled ‘Musical classic for Golden Singers’ that appeared in the South Coast Herald last Thursday.

I had approached journalist Shona Aylward on a previous occasion and she very kindly, in the absence of photographer Vee Ramsayi, arranged for photos and a small write-up of our concert in April.

We invited Shona to attend the next show (which was on a Thursday) so that she could meet our founding members and the rest of the group.

True to form, and in spite of being on leave, Shona arrived with camera, pen and notebook in hand. I could say the rest is history, but not in the least.

The excitement, joy and appreciation was just so rewarding.

Stephanie Bennett (founder and pianist) is 85 and Ian Gordon is 91, so you can imagine how they felt.

I wish Shona could have experienced the buzz.

A very big thank you to Shona for a superb article and a big thank you to editor David Rush for publishing it.

This letter does not come near to expressing our feelings of gratitude.

RACHEL MARAIS
