The 3-second rule is probably more of a ‘guy thing’… you know, if food falls to the table or ground, it’s still okay to eat it if it’s been there three seconds or less.
The only time this doesn’t apply is if the food is broccoli, or you have a 2-second dog!

A recent visit to the SPCA reminded me of a dog my folks brought home after a beloved family pooch had crossed the rainbow bridge.
The new dog was a boxer, found wandering the streets.
She soon fitted in but could not be trusted anywhere near food.
One weekend mother insisted we all come round for dinner.
She popped across to the lounge to tell us to take our seats.
As I was walking through I heard an odd sound. ‘Thwarap’.
The 2-second dog had struck – the roast chicken it’s prize!
It was the worst I had ever seen my mom lose her temper.
“Oh no,” she said.
In her defence, previous dogs had been too short to reach the counter but it would be the last time mother would be outfoxed.
My wife’s family dog, when she was a teenager, was a beautiful but sneaky bull terrier.
At some point the family had enjoyed a holiday at a hotel.
They kept the chocolates – the gold coin type – as a surprise treat for ouma.
However, when my now mother-in-law tried to find them at the bottom of the suit case they were not there.
Naturally, my wife’s two younger brothers were blamed.
A day later their good names were cleared, when the dog pooped a number of small gold nuggets!
I’m sure every family has a funny story to tell.
The SPCA is always looking for forever homes for loving.
Let it be your first stop if you are looking for a family dog, even if it has the potential of stealing the family dinner!
