DEAR Editor:
The South Coast in particular, and South Africa in general, has lost a towering attorney, human rights activist, a democrat and nation-builder by the name Louis Hansmeyer.
He was my father and a great family friend. He embraced me during the height of apartheid in the mid 80s while he was a member and leader of the Nationalist Party.

His family employed me as gardener in 1983 while I was doing standard 1 (gr 3). I subsequently worked for the Hansmeyer family until I completed my qualification as a teacher. I served them for 13 years as a gardener and became party of the family. Words will be insufficient to express my heartfelt, deepest condolences to the Hansmeyer family. The great man had departed, but his legacy will live forever. Farewell my father – it was a life well lived
