As far as my knowledge goes, it is against the law to drive with your vehicle’s hazard lights on.
The only time when you are allowed to have them on is when you have a breakdown – for instance, changing a wheel when you have a flat tyre, as well as if you are an obstruction to other vehicles or towing.

But here on the South Coast, you can drive from Hibberdene to Margate on the R102 and every taxi driving in front or behind you drives with hazard lights on.
You never know whether they are going to stop or turn right or left as they cannot indicate their intentions because their hazard lights are on all the time.
And then the traffic police must also be blamed for not enforcing the law – maybe they don’t know the law themselves and have to be taught?
The other day, driving from Southcoast Mall, when we stopped at the traffic lights to turn left towards Port Shepstone, a taxi came from Shelly Beach and parked in front of us at the traffic lights to offload passengers.
If the lights had changed to green, we would not have been able to move.
A traffic police vehicle came from the same Shelly Beach way and the taxi quickly pulled off. The police drove behind the taxi without even sounding a siren.
