As a user of our roads and having received a multitude of complaints about the poor conditions of the infrastructure in Umzinto, there is no doubt that the neglect has reached unprecedented levels.

I have logged all these complaints with Umdoni’s Customer Services Unit, I have taken municipal officials to the sites and I continue to follow up with the relevant department, in the hope that some maintenance will be done.
The impact of the bad state of the roads is not just the discomfort and inconvenience of dodging potholes and ditches.
The damage to tyres and suspensions is very costly and the damage to property values is much worse.
Operating a business or buying a home in an area where roads are dilapidated is not a choice most people would make.
Over the past three years the IDP and budget submissions I have made have put this essential service as the highest priority in the community.
I have also included the poor state of provincial roads in this quest to address the backlog.
Following an oversight visit by a member of the provincial legislature, the state of Umzinto’s main road will be tabled at the Transport Portfolio Committee.
It is without question that well-maintained roads and stormwater systems allow residents to enjoy their surroundings, reduces damages to vehicles and enables businesses to run smoothly.
In order to motivate for the much-needed repairs to our infrastructure, a petition has been drawn up and it needs your signature.
It will be submitted to the speaker’s office for inclusion on council’s agenda.

It makes a demand from the citizens of Umzinto to the council to make the funding and resources available to maintain this critical infrastructure.
I encourage all residents to show their support and join this fight for better service delivery.
