SECURITY is obviously a big issue in South Africa, not just at home but also in the work place.
So, when two slightly unsavoury characters arrived armed with CVs at a family owned feed mill (now in its third or fourth generation), there was some consternation.

They were probably genuinely seeking work, but were nonetheless escorted off the property fairly quickly. No guided tour, sorry.
Then next day, the new mill supervisor, still only three months into the job, spotted another stranger on the floor.
He took a deep breath, puffed out his chest just a touch, and strode determinedly across to the man, who appeared quite at home on the premises.
“Excuse me Sir,” he said to the gentleman, “but do you have an appointment to see either my mill manager or the owner of the company?”
“No, I don’t he replied,” a slight smile forming at the edges of his mouth, but hidden perhaps by his beard.
“Then I’m going to have to ask you to leave, Sir, as you can’t walk around in our mill.”
The older man replied with a grin: “It’s okay, I am the owner’s father!”
The mill supervisor blushed a deep hue of crimson and apologised profusely.
Luckily for him, it wasn’t an episode for Undercover Boss, but he can expect some teasing at the year-end party.
Closer to home, at the South Coast Herald offices to be exact, was robbed of a kettle, of all things.
The opportunistic burglar sneaked in through the back gate during the middle of the day.
He had probably planned to steal chairs from the courtyard but these have already been ‘redistributed’.
He grabbed the kettle and made a run for it, chased by three staff members.
What the thief didn’t bank on was the fact that the kettle was still filled with hot water!
He dropped it and disappeared down a back alley. Hopefully that’s the last we see of him.
The three brave pursuers returned, dripping with sweat, but applauded for their efforts nonetheless!
