DEAR Editor;
It was smiles all round for holidaymakers who visited Scottburgh beach during the past festive season.
Problems experienced in previous years, largely due to alcohol abuse on the beach, seems to have been greatly improved.

Many visitors commented on the improvement at the beach compared to festive seasons gone by.
The success can be credited to detailed planning and a team effort from various bodies.
We must say a huge thank you and congratulate Trevor Khanyile, the new Umdoni general manager of community services, Colonel Ralph Ruiters of Scottburgh Saps, Superintendent Kevin Govender of Protection Services and especially their respective teams, who worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents and holidaymakers by enforcing Umdoni by-laws.
The lifeguards, assisted by the Scottburgh Surf Lifesaving Club duty squads, not only controlled the bathing area at the pool and in the surf with great efficiency, but ensured holidaymakers and members of the community enjoyed a safe bathing experience.
One cannot thank municipal cleaning staff enough for cleaning the grass banks, toilet facilities and beach areas on a daily basis, in order for everyone to enjoy the pristine environment that Scottburgh beach has to offer.
The successful holiday season is sure to have a long term positive effect on the town as a whole, as reports from upcountry visitors will no doubt draw those people who had decided to look for greener pastures along the South African coastline back to Scottburgh.
Residents of the town all join together in thanking authorities for combining so successfully to make Scottburgh the number one holiday destination on the KZN coast.
Congratulations and thank you to all involved.
