OPINION: ‘My hospital experience was superb’

I was so fortunate to have reached the top of the list after waiting nearly three years for knee replacement surgery.

DEAR Editor:-

I was so fortunate to have reached the top of the list after waiting nearly three years for knee replacement surgery, which I had done at the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital on February 6.

The whole experience was superb and I am so thankful for the expertise of the surgeon and theatre staff, the dedication of the sister and nurses in my ward, the cleanliness, kindness, nourishing food, understanding and support from everyone concerned with my operation.

After examination by the hospital physio staff the day after my surgery, I was given instructions for an exercise schedule to be undertaken at home and was discharged with a brand new walker.

I was referred to our local clinic for follow-up, which included removal of dressings and staples – another positive experience.

I am happy to say that I am healing so well from surgery and am pain-free for the first time in many years.

Thank you very much.
