LOCKDOWN BLOG: When the wine stocks start running low – Day 7

Nothing fixes a depressed South African like a 'dop 'n chop'.

Twenty-one days is actually a long time, when you come to think of it.

To be exact.

It’s nine or 10 days short of a month.

The government banned jogging or walking dogs as well as the sale of alcohol and cigarettes, during the lockdown – warning  that offenders risked being prosecuted, and either fined or jailed.

The only thing you can do – literally – is stay at home!

To quote t is the first time since South Africa became a democracy in 1994, that a president had stripped away the most basic freedoms of citizens – to walk, to shop, to socialise and to congregate for prayer without hindrance.”

I’m just thankful there hasn’t been a ban on music, books or the internet.

But, for many it’s the panic of running out of alcohol or ciggies.

When that last drop of alcohol hits your lips, I’m sorry to tell you that it – finished – ‘klaar’ – they would say in Afrikaans, and ‘phelisa’ in isiZulu.

I honestly never thought this day would come, when one can’t jump in their car and take a quick drive to the local bottle store to buy a beer for a Saturday braai.

Nothing fixes a depressed South African like a ‘dop ‘n chop’.
