I don’t know about you – but last night’s announcement of an extended lockdown was a mixed bag of emotions.

Today I crawled out of bed and sat on the lawn with a cup of coffee watching a new day emerge.
“Another day that I have to hold it together,” I think to myself.
The days are cooler and the garden is alive with butterflies and birds.
I am, as expected, joined by my dogs.
Everything seems a little surreal.
For Mia the puppy, life has been great for the last 15 days.
(Well, I like to believe she enjoys living with me.)
She hasn’t left my side and I’ve watched her grow from 4.5 kilograms to 12 kilograms in two months.
My little rescue from the streets of Margate is growing into a fierce beauty – that has destroyed half my house and dug-up two thirds of the garden.
Her investigative nose gets her in trouble, more often than not.
She also has her partner in crime, Sam and the two of them NEVER stop romping around.
Never a dull moment.
I watch her, she is oblivious to the stresses that another 14 days of lockdown has brought overnight to the house, to the country, to the small businesses and to the man living day-to-day.
But little does she know, how much joy she has brought me during these days of self-isolation.
They say the best lessons in life can come from the most unexpected places.
Oh boy! Well, do I have plenty of time to spend on the lawn.
And dogs sure know a thing or two about living life to the fullest – in just a yard.
