LOCKDOWN BLOG: Time to turn over a new leaf – Day 16

I'm not going anywhere soon, so I might as well use this time constructively.

As of yesterday (Friday) there’s a total of 21 days of lockdown to get through.

This got me thinking – that this is the perfect time to self-improve – to set new goals, implement an exercise regime, to start eating healthier and a few other things…

Sigh! You know the usual stuff!

I’m not going anywhere soon, so I might as well use this time constructively.

Dr Jason Selk is one of the premier performance coaches in the United States, with dozens of professional athletes and is quoted saying ‘the habits of highly successful people allow them to consistently perform behaviors that breed success’.

He wrote in his Forbes article, Habit Formation: The 21-Day Myth – that everything from eating well to responsible spending to task completion and beyond requires habits that make such behaviours part of our daily life.

Dr Maxwell Maltz, a plastic surgeon in the 1950’s, wrote the bestseller Psycho-Cybernetics, in which he says through his research he found that it takes 21 days to create a new habit.

When Maltz did an operation on a patient — whether it was a nose job or a leg amputation — he noticed it would take them 21 days to adjust to the change in their body.

Based on that, he wrote in his book that ‘it requires a minimum of about 21 days for an old mental image to dissolve’.

Some argue that it takes 66 days to develop a habit.

But whatever the case, with roughly three weeks left, it’s time to make a more serious attempt to turn over a new leaf.

I challenge you, too – as we all should be on this  journey of self-improvement.
