LOCKDOWN BLOG: What are you doing jogging during lockdown? – Day 25

My Monday rant is to those jogging despite the lockdown, and to those motorists who don't consider the wildlife.

I’ve seriously been trying to ignore the odd jogger I’ve seen enjoying the fresh air and the open road,  nicely (and illegally) maintaining their fitness levels during lockdown.

Up until now, I’ve really tried to be the better person.

You know, the not to worry what others are doing and just worry what you are doing  kind of attitude, just in case I might be accused of being childish, petty or jealous.

Jealous, YES! And VERY much, so!

But, earlier today I saw three people jogging together in a little formation, clutching  their water bottles, and chatting happily like it’s normal to be out and about… during lockdown.

For goodness sake! I felt like pulling over and giving them a piece of my mind. But I carried on driving  feeling annoyed, mad and jealous! I so desperately want to jog, run, sprint – but instead, I’m obeying the ONE important rule – STAY AT HOME! What concerns me, if adults can’t get this rule – what example are they setting for their children?

And while, I’m on this rant – drive slower!

Just because there is less traffic, doesn’t mean you have to drive like a maniac. Tracy Rowles of Umsizi Umkomaas Vervet Rescue Centre recently posted on Facebook asking all drivers to be careful on the roads, as the animals have gotten used to less traffic so are not moving off the road as fast as they usually would.

She is getting so many calls about birds being hit on the roads and most don’t survive. Let’s try not to be a selfish human during the rest of lockdown!
