I guess if you haven’t had children, the older you get the more you wonder if you should have brought some ‘little angels’ into the world.

However, given the unexpected feelings of anxiety and uncertainty coupled with the financial stress Covid-19 has brought to many households across the world, I am more and more convinced I have made the right call.

Please don’t get me wrong – for those who have recently welcomed their bundle of joy into the world or are raising a child or teenager, I honestly think you have the most difficult job on the planet, and I take my hat off to you. If you are a single parent – I salute you!

I, for one, am deeply grateful I don’t a little human to worry about. My main reason for not having a child is that I believe if you can’t financially give it the best, don’t have it. Children are darned expensive! Secondly,  I would not want to bring up a child in this crazy world.

I do, however consider myself a parent to seven rescues, one being a five month old puppy, named Mia, and she is a full time job. Yes, call me crazy!

Earlier today Mia jumped into the swimming pool, then sprinted into the house and proceeded to leap onto the leather couch, worming and wiggling her wet and sandy body along the length of the couch in pure puppy joy!

I recently heard of a childless couple adopting a puppy and returning it a few days later, as they didn’t realise how much work a puppy entailed. Now, imagine having a kid – and you can’t return it.

Not for a minute am I comparing puppies to children, but I just don’t know if I would be able explain to my child why, why and why again the world is such a mess, and why we can’t go ride our bikes or go to the beach.

Or the stress of the ever-changing school year plan, protecting them against an invisible virus or trying to explain geometry.

One thing is for sure – I have LOVED every lockdown minute with my puppy, teaching and watching her grow.
