LOCKDOWN BLOG: Visiting a shelter gives new meaning to the term ‘caged’ – Day 27

Earlier this week I visited Harmony Hill Rescue Haven, a rescue shelter in Sea Park on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

I’m admittedly a little over lockdown (really just done! Just 27 days of enough).

The daily grind of trying to work and keep a house and garden semi-clean is taking its toll.

Earlier this week I visited Harmony Hill Rescue Haven, a rescue shelter in Sea Park on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

Shimba – a five year chow up for adoption.

As an essential service he shelter is allowed to operate during this period.

Adorable puppies up for adoption.

I had the delightful pleasure of meeting some of their newer rescues, and an adorable litter of six-week-old puppies.

Fun loving puppies.

Dogs have this amazing ability to always be tail-waggingly happy and put a smile on your face – especially when you are feeling ’emo’.

Bhengu, collie cross spaniel. About 6-years-old and has spent months living in a shelter.

They always seem so happy to see you, even if life has thrown them some serious curve balls and they are spending  day in and day out cooped up in a cage waiting for a special human to come rescue them, and give them a second chance.

Beautiful Belgian shepherd cross collie is looking for a home with large open spaces.

When two of the newer rescues, still to be named, were let out of the kennels they bounded out with energy, almost bowling me over.

Bouncing and sprinting around in the sheer  joy of being free.

It’s thought this young boy escaped as he was found on the street with a rope around his neck.

The life lesson I took from my visit to the shelter was “no matter the situation, be like a dog with two tails.”

Easier said, than done. But, hey! I’m going to give it a try!
