I had the pleasure (or maybe displeasure) to have to visit the Port Shepstone Licensing Department recently for my driver’s licence renewal.
I duly arrived at 5.45am, only to be number 38 in the queue.
Kudos to the staff as the office opened on time at 8am.
At around 9am I eventually entered the grounds for my Covid-19 screening.
This is where the nightmare really started as 50 of us were lined up under the roof in front of the office.
I was eventually called to enter the office building at around 11.30am.
From there things went quite quickly and I left at 12.30pm after having had my driver’s licence renewed.
My question is this: surely the RNM licensing department could at least put some plastic chairs under the roof where people queue, as is done at the Margate office where vehicle licences are renewed, so that people can sit.
It is asking a lot to expect people, especially the elderly, to stand for six hours before they can enter the building.
