OPINION: ‘Bookworms could benefit from this system’

It could also help avoid a huge backlog of returns when the libraries reopen, and provide staff with useful work in the interim.

DEAR Editor,

All libraries in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality are currently closed to the public but a notice at the entrance advises that staff are on duty from Monday to Friday.

To avoid a huge backlog of returns when the libraries reopen and to provide staff with useful work in the interim, may I suggest borrowers be allowed to return their books, perhaps to a table in the entrance with sanitising facilities and admission control, ensuring suitable social distancing and from where lending cards could be updated.

This would eventually provide a large source of books readily available for borrowing until such a time as the libraries reopen.
