OPINION: ‘Rain leaves road unbearable’, says resident

Before construction commenced, there were times when the residents of one house weren't even able to access their driveway gates.

DEAR Editor:

The residents of Marine Drive in Preston have been dealing with a horrific eyesore for quite a while now.

Construction began on this road, was aborted for about a month, and after persistently reaching out to Umdoni Municipality several times, began again.

We are grateful for the construction continuing, but hope that it will be completed soon as it really makes for such a terrible sight.

There are also people whose driveways are affected by the muddy water.

Before construction commenced, there were times when the residents of one house weren’t even able to access their driveway gates.

On a dry weather day, the road and driveway entrance are bearable, but with rain like we’ve endured in the past week, it is unbearable.

One woman is forced to walk through water and mud just so she can go to go to work.

The mountains of sand have left pathways of mud after the heavy rain and it looks as though a little nature reserve was created by the mess.

It’s just rivers of water and mud galore.

As a frustrated ratepayer, I can only pray that this road is seen to as soon possible and completed before it gets any worse.
