Lewis Hamilton produced another brilliant race at the Portuguese Grand Prix and now has more grand prix wins than anyone else, going past Michael Schumacher‘s 91 wins.
Although Valtteri Bottas led briefly at the start, Hamilton came back at him and finished the race with a 26 second lead over his teammate.
Max Verstappen was once again on the podium in third spot, 35 seconds behind Bottas.
To cap it, Hamilton also took the fastest lap of the race.
In fourth place was the very well driven Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.
The prancing horses are gradually coming back into the reckoning although Sebastian Vettel slipped back into the last point scoring position in 10th.
Pierre Gasly was fifth and now has the threat of possibly losing his place at Alphatauri.
The Honda-engined car has been performing particularly well of late and after his recent win it seems sad that he might have to go.
Carlos Sainz in the Renault powered McLaren gave us a magnificent display of top class driving in the early stages of the race when the track was wet but had to give way to the faster cars after the rain had stopped.
His sixth position was a very good result under the circumstances.
In seventh position was another hard-charger, Sergio Perez, who it seems will be giving up his place to Vettel next year.
Also, a very tough situation after consistently good results in his Racing Point Mercedes.
The two Works Renaults of Estaban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo were in line astern in eight and ninth places respectively.
They both had also performed very well in the earlier damp weather.
Next weekend the racing circus now moves to Imola, the Italian circuit where the late, great Ayrton Senna was so sadly killed in 1994.
The accident was not the fault of the circuit but a steering shaft which sheared off under very high G loadings.
The track is really challenging to all drivers and Senna’s untimely death has led to a lot of safety decisions to the benefit of others.
Two weeks after Imola the teams move across to Turkey but more about that in a future report.
