Matthew chapter 11 vs 29-30
‘Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’
If you look around it’s not hard to see how frazzled society has become, or is increasingly becoming.
People race around from one thing to the next, seldom taking enough time to truly rest and spend time in the Word, in the presence of the Lord.
Often, folk see God as being ready to punish if they do not measure up, and hence they try harder in their own strength. And fail.
However, judging by the words in the above scripture, it would seem that God wants us to rest in Him, to rely on His strength.
This can be difficult to do in the physical realm and because we cannot see God, we sometimes assume He isn’t around and isn’t working in our lives.
But sometimes we need to take a moment to humble ourselves and accept God’s way of doing things, to take up His yoke instead of straining on our own.
That’s when we will find rest for our souls, peace in our hearts, despite the turmoil going on in the world at the moment.
