From the Word: Hold on tightly in tough times

In these difficult times we all need something to believe in, something to reassure and give hope.

Hebrews 10:23 (Amplified)

23 Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word].

In these difficult times we all need something to believe in, something to reassure and give hope.

For Christians this comes in the form of God who sent His Son Jesus Christ to earth to be man’s saviour.

This salvation can only be realised through acknowledgement of sin, repentance and then belief in Christ.

While the authorship of the book Hebrews is not known for certain, there are some who think it was probably written by Paul.

Whatever the case it was addressed to Hebrews who had accepted Christ and now faced persecution.

The writer encourages them to hold on to what they believe and not to let it go because times are difficult.

In this verse, the writer reminds the people to turn their focus on God when they feel weak and desperate.

He reminds them that it’s God who is reliable, trustworthy and faithful to (ultimately) fulfil His promise to his people.

In short, it’s an encouragement not to give up or waver because the day will come when God will spectacularly uphold, reward and justify His people.
