DEAR Editor;
I thank the following people and organisations for providing me the opportunity to have cataract surgery at no cost.
I was one of the 10 candidates chosen for Eye Week 2020.
Thanks go to my sister Shirley, and her husband Kelvin Allan for initiating my application, and for their support.
To Dr Trevor Steyn for doing the operation, and to his staff for their professional care.
To the anesthesiologists, Dr Louw, Basson and partners.
Oculate, covered the cost of the lenses.
To the members of the Lions Club for their commitment of their time, and provision of funding.
The Hibiscus Hospital for providing beds, and nursing staff.
Ampath Laboratories who covered the cost of the Covid-19 test.
Finally, to Specsavers Shelly Beach, for the eye test and providing reading glasses.
I also thank those that may have contributed, whom I may have left out.
I have one eye, so it was important that the operation was a success.
I am extremely grateful that there has been an exceptional improvement to my sight, to the extent that I no longer have to use glasses all the time (the first time in 46 years).
KEITH RIGGIEN
