Starting the column this week on a positive note, an incredible photograph of a crowned eagle atop the Renishaw Chapel was taken by Hazel Nevin on Sunday.
According to Shane McPherson it was ringed three years ago, 85km south of Renishaw.
He suggests that she may be intent on taking over ‘our’ nest which has been empty for a while.
In more serious news, non-profit organisation, Self in Aksie advises that of the 31 families in Pennington the community so generously supported with donations of food parcels, eight families, including four young children, are still in dire need of emergency food support.
The community is requested to help provide essential food to them by donating non-perishable food to the PCW trolley at OK Foods.
You may also donate funds to Self in Aksie who distribute these food parcels free of charge, meaning all money is used for food.

I hope Debby Holroyd’s Covid experience allowed everyone to start thinking about the role that we play in this community.
We owe it to ourselves to exercise care and caution.
Debby’s experience was a nightmare that I don’t wish on anyone.
Covid-19 support for Umzinto and surrounds – an emergency Covid-19 unit is being set-up in Umzinto as our doctors are overwhelmed with many patients who need oxygen.
Assistance is required in setting up this facility.
We currently need volunteers to assist in logistics and nursing.
Contributions of cash or kind will be appreciated. Please note that patients will only be admitted via a doctor’s referral.

The beaches and parks and pools are closed. It is frustrating and seems unfair, however, it is not forever.
At this time there is much fear and anxiety which often manifests as anger and aggression. Let’s be kind.
Parents are being hard pushed now as the opening of schools has been postponed to February 15.
This year, along with last year, certainly cannot be termed as ‘normal’ and so much change is expected from everyone.
Change is inevitable, misery is optional.
