Folk say: “I wish we could go back to normal.” And then one hears “this is the new normal.”
Times are incredibly harsh, sad and full of anxiety and apprehension.
The only thing that is certain, is that we move forward, a day at a time.
Doing the next thing – whatever it may be – the dishes – the laundry – cutting some branches in the garden.
Do the next thing. Sitting and dwelling on how things are makes us crazy.
I know that the community will join me in sending heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Linda Fraser who died recently.
Linda was Steve’s wife, mother to Monique and Jan, Stephanie and Keelan, Belinda and Wayne and ouma to Lily and Addilyn.
Covid-19 support for Umzinto and surrounds – an emergency Covid-19 unit is being set up in Umzinto as our doctors are overwhelmed by many patients who need oxygen.
Assistance is required in setting up this facility.
We currently need volunteers to assist in logistics and nursing.
Contributions in cash or kind will be appreciated for setting up this unit. Please note that patients will only be admitted via a doctor’s referral.

Non-profit organisation, Self in Aksie advises that of the 31 families in Pennington, the community so generously supported with donations to food parcels, eight families including four young children are in dire need of emergency food support.
The community is requested to help provide essential food to them by donating non-perishable food to the PCW trolley at OK Foods.
You may also donate funds to Self in Aksie which distribute these food parcels free of charge, meaning all money is used for food.

There is a dip in the R102. Not like the big hole that was. But a really nasty dip – in line with the Pennington library – which is going to cause some major damage.
Who is in charge of fixing this?
And can it be done very soon? Sadly the trucks which are using this road are making the situation worse.
The dip needs to be repaired as soon as possible because people (me included) take chances by going around it into the oncoming lane to avoid it. It really is becoming increasingly dangerous.
And then speaking of the road situation (and we are only addressing Pennington – the editor wouldn’t give me two pages to address the rest of Umdoni!) – there are horrible holes on the left hand side of the road approaching the Kelso bridge from the south (i.e. travelling north).
People (including me) go onto the other side of the road to avoid them. These holes are going to shred some tyres soon. We need some really busy road fixing folk – urgently.
