The Garden Club, which has been in existence for more than 50 years, meets once a month on the third Thursday of the month.
The first meeting of the year was held on March 18 in the beautiful garden of Dierdre Taggart in Pennington, where 40 people attended.

Marcel Verleur gave two interesting demonstrations on starting and pruning a bonsai.
He also spoke on items to be done in gardens during the next month or two, eg: lawn maintenance and the planting of vegetables and flowers.
Competition results
Best vegetable: first – Des Cuffe Pepperdew and Steph Howell for Bell Peppers; second – Rona Jones for Bell Peppers.
Indigenous: One Stem Flowering Plectranthus: first – Caroline van Hilten; second – Rona Jonas and Rina Mason; third – Liz Thompson.
Rosebowl Competition: One Stem Flowering Shrub: first – Caroline van Hilten (Whitfeldia); second – Rona Jones (Pentas), Steph Howell and Rina Mason (Brazilian Red Cloak).
Best herb: first – Rona Jones (Mint); Second – Caroline van Hilten (Mint).
The next meeting will be held at Ioni Bowman’s garden at 10 Beefwood Road, Pennington on Thursday, April 15.
Signs will be placed from the top of Pennington Drive.
April Competitions: One Stem Berries or One Stem Striped Foliage; One Stem Indigenous Berries or Seedpods.
Also: Best Fruit; Best Vegetable; Best Herb: Sage or Comfrey.
* Scottburgh Athletic Club time trials are held at the golf club on Wednesdays at 5.15pm. All welcome – runners and walkers.
