I assume that we are all familiar with the words “It’s a man’s world”.
In a traditional household, the man would primarily run it, pay the bills and bring home the bacon.
Most times, the woman was expected to bear children, be an obedient wife, do chores and turn the house into a home.

Mind you, I am in no way shunning these traditions.
Some females grow up wanting nothing more than to bounce a baby on their lap, in their own home while waiting for their partner to return after a long day.
There are some males who fixate on nothing more than being a sole-provider, heading a household and taking care of his family.
If this works for you, I’m glad and you should by no means let anyone make you feel otherwise.
All I’m saying is that we live in changing times, and it is okay to change the routine every so often.
For many, being a female in this so-called man’s world feels a lot like navigating through a minefield when it absolutely should not.
In an ideal world, women would not feel inferior, they would not feel limited or need to tread carefully out of fear that they might hurt a few male egos along the way.
The sad reality however, is that it still happens.
In a time as advanced as this, why can’t we move forward from these designated gender roles?
It could start with simple things like household chores.
Ladies, it’s a man’s world apparently, so why are you still washing the dishes?
While I understand that everyone’s home situation is different, surely it doesn’t take much to help one another out?
I’ve never had to consider little things like these until recent times.
The older I get and the closer I move to the possibility of marriage, the more thought I give it.
I’ve always been fortunate to grow up in a home where responsibilities were shared between my parents, something I’ve grown to appreciate especially now that I am an adult.
However, one thing that seems universal among the majority is that even if both parents are working, the mom is expected to do all the chores.
In my view, we need more shared efforts within the household.
The person who has the time to do the task, should be the one who does it, it’s simple really.
So ladies, start that business and accept that job you’ve always wanted.
You do not have to choose between a career and a family, you can have both.
Men, bake all the cupcakes you want to, mop the floors and for the love of biscuits, wash the dishes.
I promise it will not negate your masculinity.
Lend a hand around the house, and after you do, ask yourself why you haven’t already.
Yes, this is undeniably a man’s world.
But like James Brown said, “It would be nothing, not one little thing, without a woman or a girl.”
