Khanya Hospice is putting together jars/bags of hope. They also need blankets and warm clothes. Financial donations will also be appreciated.
They will distribute to the Jona Vaughan Home for Mentally Challenged and Khanya Hospice patients who live in the townships.

The Pennington Conservancy held its AGM (happily a live event again). The committee agreed to stay on for another year and that is encouraging. We do need to devote more attention to Nkomba and Makamati and other environmental issues and to do so volunteers are needed.
The Makamati trail was cleared a week or so ago and, sadly, a bakkie load of trash was collected. Items ranged from old braais, lawn mowers and toasters to general garbage.
The first course for the year on invasive plants was well attended. Hopefully the proliferation of invasive plants will be curtailed in the area around Cherry Lane. Peter Woolcock organised a donation of 12 fruit bearing indigenous trees which will be planted at Nkomba in the hope of attracting a greater variety of birds to the area.
The Sea Bean trail has been cleared and we hope to extend the circular trail to incorporate the northern section of Nkomba into the existing trails. A marsh mongoose was caught in a snare at Nkomba but happily was released unharmed. The Snare Aware group visited Nkomba last Saturday to search for snares and to present a talk on snares. We have installed a water supply to the toilet area and the braai area. It will be of great benefit for future events that are planned for the area and the greater utilisation of this very pretty spot.
Members witnessed the collection of Pickersgill reed frogs at Nkomba. The group consisted of Endangered Wildlife members, together with a contingent from Ezemvelo and Johannesburg Zoo. The breeding programme is being run by the zoo and frogs reared will be reintroduced to the area.
The Beach Café had a fantastic month and was extremely well supported.
The staff have been fantastic in taking over the management of the café while Heinz Holler recovers from his fall. The community is invited to come along at 4.30pm on Fridays and bring a bottle of wine and enjoy a casual atmosphere looking out over a beautiful ocean.
A blue duiker was found at Abrahams Crest last week and thanks to Dr Peter Biden she is doing well and should be able to be released back into the bush when she gets a little older.
