OPINION: ‘Something good out of a terrible situation’

Local security companies fought off the mobs, saving our towns, doing so much to protect us.

DEAR Editor;

What South Africa has gone through in these past few weeks has instilled fear in people.

People in KwaZulu-Natal were at war with each other, fighting against their own kind as if living was just an activity.

As I sat by my bedroom window I could hear the sound of the bullets, the screams of people.

Local security companies fought off the mobs, saving our towns, doing so much to protect us.

People charging towards stores, only to destroy them and take it all for themselves.

Smashed windows, graffitied walls, food everywhere. All wasted.

The images of burning buildings and farmers’ trucks being destroyed in transit can’t be easily erased.

People claim that they want to save our planet and conquer world hunger; so how is any of this going to help?

All the food that was destroyed could have fed thousands of hungry people.

Greed was the power that motivated the looters.

Once they started they couldn’t stop until they had destroyed everything but God intervened and had other plans.

He took a terrible situation and created something good.

Once people started to realise what was going on they pulled together and fought.

Allies were made between enemies and they held the line, side by side. Our history was put aside and people joined together. God’s way.

Through all of this many thoughts ran through my head and the only thing that got me through it was knowing that there was a plan for all of this.

I didn’t know what the plan was, or is, but I knew it’s far greater than the losses and lives taken.

It’s greater than all of the fighting and terrible violence.

We can’t only look at the negative. Yes, acknowledge that it’s there but never think that it’s the only outcome.

Look how the South Coast (and KZN) community pulled together.

If you find yourself in a situation where you’re overwhelmed, then sit back and focus your mind on something that will bring calm and remind yourself that all is going to be okay.

Remember that God knew the end before the beginning began so relax and trust His process.

After all, it is His world and we are His people, so there is no need to fear. “For He has not given us a spirit of fear…”

So, keep a sound mind. Everything is perfect in His timing. Trust His plans.

Stay strong and know that God’s got a method despite the madness.
