OPINION: ‘Windscreen repair scam artist doing his rounds’

He brought my attention to a chip on my windscreen and so kindly offered to repair it.

DEAR Editor;

I write this letter in dismay after being scammed in a parking lot in Hibberdene last Friday.

I jumped out of my vehicle to go about my shopping when I was approached by a Caucasian man.

He brought my attention to a chip on my windscreen and so kindly offered to repair it.

He quoted me a reasonable fee and said it would be completed by the time I finished my shopping.

Upon completion the quote almost doubled, he had misrepresented himself and misled me.

He then gave me an invoice with a contact number on it and added that he would claim from insurance on my behalf and the money would be in account in good time.

A few days passed and by Monday I was still no reimbursed.

More so, the number he gave me rang continuously.

I realised that I had been scammed and it upsets me thinking that I fell for it.

However, I would hate for the same thing to happen to anyone else and so I urge all residents to be on the lookout and to not fall for this trick.

It is very likely that he will go to other parking lots and try his tricks again, so please be cautious.

Scam artists have become so sly and cunning, allowing us to fall for their tricks.
