DEAR Editor;
It stuns me how little regard some (not all) tow truck drivers seem to have for their own lives, and for that matter, the lives of others.
The other day I was cruising along the back road of Izotsha, going towards the Norwegian Settlers Church.
Next thing I noticed a vehicle haring up behind me, going at a rapid speed. I imagined there must be an awful accident somewhere, such was his haste as he overtook me.
Then, and I kid you not, another tow truck driver overtook both of us.
I couldn’t believe it – two vehicles abreast in the oncoming lane, with myself looking at the rise to see what vehicle would be coming over the top.
Sure enough, a vehicle did crest the rise and still the two tow trucks were gunning it up the hill.
I slowed down, and watched in horror, expecting there to be an almighty collision.
The poor motorist coming gently down the hill – I could see the whites of his terrified eyes.
While I was shocked at the antics of the two drivers, I couldn’t help but admire their driving skill.
(It’s almost like their skills are wasted and they should be racing for a living on a circuit somewhere).
They both hit the brakes and somehow avoided disaster, deftly manoeuvring their vehicles out of harm’s way.
Finally, the prize both these drivers were racing towards came into view – a vehicle that looked like it had pulled over due to a puncture, or something like that.
Hardly worth the ferocious duelling to get there first!
