OPINION: ‘Your only exit from incarceration should be feet first in a box’
Accountability for your deeds is paramount in my eyes, therefore face up to your punishment.
Potentially, this is a sensitive subject. Potentially, my view may be taken as being hardline. Potentially, I may be wrong but I feel that when you have wilfully and deliberately taken a life and, after due process, the court has awarded you a life sentence, that is what it should be – jail for life.
Your only exit from incarceration should be feet first in a box. I do not make this call based on any political favouritism, I compare it to the John Lennon murder, carried out by Mark Chapman.
Should he be free to walk the streets after how many years of incarceration and numerous parole hearings? An emphatic NO will be my reply.
To quote the phrase: do the crime, do the time, what do you not understand?
Accountability for your deeds is paramount in my eyes, therefore face up to your punishment. Nobody held a gun to your head and forced you to take that life, therefore, accept the legal consequence of your actions.
