BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning in – Activities on the go

Community news and events for Pennington and surrounding areas.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Years ago it was so much fun to receive cards, roses, chocolates and champagne. Does it still happen? Can someone send me a pic and a little write-up for next week.

Join Agape Church Pennington in their praise and worship youth evenings every Friday at 19:00. For more information contact 067 9191595.

Stacey-Lee Hooper is congratulated by her son, Brody on completing the Midmar Mile in 35 minutes – with two weeks training and a shoulder injury. Well done!

Pennington Recreation Club is the owner and custodian of Relton Hall. The club was formed in 1953 after Laurel Pennington donated a piece of land and a thatched roof clubhouse was built in 1961, which unfortunately burnt down in 1977. The Pennington community collected funds and built the current hall which was officially opened in June 1980. Relton Hall is available for use by all the residents of Pennington. The various activities and functions provided by the club generate the funds required for the running and maintenance of the facility.

Residents of Pennington are invited to become members of the club, to preserve this valuable asset for future generations. We also invite volunteers in the community to arrange fundraising events at the hall, or make donations, to contribute to the much-needed roof repair. Membership forms can be obtained by emailing reltonhall@yahoo.com. Current membership fees are R100 per year.

Activities at Relton Hall:
* Stitch and Bitch every first and third Thursday, and arts and crafts every second and fourth Thursday from February.
* Chess on Fridays from 15:00 to 17:00 at R10 per participant. Contact Silvano Borea on 081 0449342.
* Table tennis and board games are also played. For further information contact Karen Veleur on 082 7864971.
* Canasta on the second and fourth Thursday from 10:30 to 12:30 at R20 per person. All funds go to Relton Hall. Contact Karen Davy on 076 2974457.

Congrats to Jennifer-Jayne Miller, mom Bianca Leech and Matthew Miller for completing their first Midmar Mile together. Such stars!
