Is our brave new world all it is meant to be? Is our brave new world delivering to us, we who created it.
Is it going to deliver that for which we have been searching – the perfect world?
Steps towards artificial intelligence (AI) becoming a replacement for human intellectual interaction is no longer a science fiction dream but a possibility teetering on the edge of reality.
Certain scientists and inventors are of the opinion that the artificial intelligence concept will be the new order. It will take over the world and take over our lives.
We will become nonentities existing in a nonactive personal environment. We need not be here. Life, artificial intelligence wise, will go in without us.
We humans are actually quite sharp creatures inasmuch that we are most times our worst enemy.
Over centuries, we humans of the northern hemisphere have strived to develop and improve ourselves.
Discarding the wearing of animal skins around our bodies to hide our nakedness and keep us warm was one such development.
Wattle and daub and mud hovels or huts were replaced with stone structures for military protection and as a bastion against the weather.
The development of the northern peoples spread to building ships, cars and flying machines – but this was over time, indeed.
Much as these improvements made life good, however, mechanical and computer driven advancements have seen us putting citizens out of a job.
One just has to view the whirling, twisting and flailing robot arms that assemble and spray paint motor vehicles.
Admittedly, they cannot go on strike or get sick or go on leave – so from a financial viewpoint all is wonderful except so many workers are now out of work.
Same thing happened in cotton mills in Britain when mechanisation sped up the spinning process.
More people unemployed, and we humans are very adept at putting the population out of a job. Maybe politicians will fall in this category when AI becomes a reality?
