The Democratic Alliance Women’s Network (Dawn) Ugu Constituency thanks all who opened their hearts and generously donated items, time and resources to the precious 300 people who were left homeless and destitute after the devastating fire which swept through Masinenge in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Imagine losing everything you own – your birth certificate, ID, school reports, matric certificates, references, never mind your home, clothes, furniture and personal effects.
The prospect is simply overwhelming, to be left with absolutely nothing other than the clothes you were sleeping in, in the early hours of the morning.
Most tragic of all was the loss of a very special young man.
We extends deepest sympathy to his family and friends and to all those affected by the fire.
Dawn made an appeal on Saturday morning, for items of clothing, bedding, crockery, cutlery, mattresses, building materials and simply anything that could be used.
And was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, assistance and donations.
We would love to name each and every person who immediately searched through their cupboards and took donations to the various collection points set up on the South Coast.
We cannot name each and every person but you know who you are and please know that each and everything that you donated will make an enormous difference in the lives of the fire victims.
We also express deepest gratitude to the people and companies who stepped in and offered transport and assistance.
Thanks also to everyone else who has, and will, make a difference in the lives of the fire victims – there are no words to adequately express our deep gratitude to you.
If you have anything that you would like to donate, contact Lesley on 082 7445500.
